IDEA.md — A standard file for portable idea intent in agentic software work. Share the idea, not the code. Your agent builds the rest. Inspired by Karpathy's idea file concept. Vendor-neutral, works with Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Copilot, and any LLM agent.
This project helps software developers and product managers clearly define and share their product ideas before any code is written. It allows you to document the core concept, problem, and solution in a structured text file, which then guides AI coding agents in building the software. The result is a consistent, vendor-neutral "idea blueprint" that any AI agent or team member can use as a starting point.
Use this if you want a standardized way to capture the 'what' and 'why' of a software idea, ensuring your AI coding agents or development team understands the core intent before diving into implementation.
Not ideal if you're looking for a detailed technical specification, architecture diagram, or a tool to manage project tasks and timelines.
