Underwater Trash Detection

This project helps environmental monitoring teams and marine researchers automatically identify and classify underwater trash from autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) or remotely operated vehicle (ROV) images. You feed it video frames or still images captured underwater, and it outputs a detection and classification of objects as plastic, general trash, or underwater debris, distinguishing them from marine life or natural flora. Marine conservationists, oceanographers, and environmental protection agencies would use this.

Use this if you need to quickly and accurately identify and categorize different types of trash in underwater imagery captured by mobile devices with limited computing power.

Not ideal if you are working with terrestrial or aerial imagery, or if your primary goal is to identify specific marine species rather than human-made debris.
