EMBL-PKU/BASALT

Nature Communications | BASALT (Binning Across a Series of Assemblies Toolkit) for binning and refinement of short- and long-read sequencing data

52
/ 100
Established

BASALT helps researchers analyze complex microbial communities by taking raw DNA sequencing data (both short-read and long-read) from environmental samples and identifying individual microbial genomes within them. It efficiently generates high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) by integrating multiple assembly files and refining the results. Microbiologists, environmental scientists, and genomics researchers can use this to better understand microbial diversity and function.

128 stars.

Use this if you need to extract and refine individual microbial genomes from complex metagenomic sequencing data, especially when dealing with multiple assembly files or a mix of short- and long-read sequences.

Not ideal if you are working with solely long-read data (other than PacBio-HiFi) or require extremely fast initial processing without the need for comprehensive refinement across multiple assemblies.
